Barbour has been creating practical British clothing since John Barbour established the company in South Shields in 1894. Originally supplying protective garments to sailors, fishermen and mariners, Barbour remains a fifth generation family owned business today. Its collections have evolved far beyond outerwear, while retaining the distinctive country character that has made the brand recognisable around the world.
This contemporary boat shoe takes a traditional nautical silhouette and gives it a more substantial modern appearance. Rich dark brown waxy leather provides plenty of character, complemented by contrast stitching and gold coloured eyelets. The corduroy detailing is particularly distinctive and takes inspiration from the cord collars found on Barbour's iconic wax jackets.
Unlike the flatter sole traditionally associated with boat shoes, this design sits on a chunky cleated rubber sole inspired by modern trainers. It gives the shoe a stronger stance and brings additional practicality to an otherwise classic design. The traditional unlined construction keeps things relaxed, while a padded footbed and arch support provide welcome comfort underfoot.
These are particularly versatile shoes for the transition between summer and autumn. Pair them with chinos and an Oxford shirt for a polished casual look, or wear them with dark denim, a knitted jumper and wax jacket as temperatures begin to fall. The deep brown leather also works beautifully with olive, navy, beige and traditional country colours.
Barbour footwear appeals to men who appreciate traditional British styling but still want something practical enough for regular wear. This pair captures that balance particularly well, combining the relaxed character of a classic boat shoe with waxy leather, heritage inspired cord detailing and a rugged contemporary sole. It is an excellent choice for anyone wanting something smarter than a trainer without stepping into formal footwear.

Something a bit different
Really pleased with these. The dark brown leather looks great and the corduroy detail makes them a little different from the usual boat shoe. Very comfortable straight away with good cushioning and support. I also like the chunkier sole which gives plenty of grip. They look equally good with jeans or chinos and feel really well made.
